Podiatry, regulated by the HCPC (also known as chiropody) is a specialist area of healthcare involving the foot and lower limb.
A HCPC registered Podiatrist specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a number of foot conditions. Primarily the podiatrist aims to maintain mobility, reduce pain and promote independence of clients.
Initial assessment of foot posture, gait, vascular and neurological status will be used to gain an understanding of the presenting complaint, this in conjunction with medical history and medications will be used in diagnosis and planning.
Treatment planning may involve some or all of the following; routine podiatry care, exercises, orthotic intervention, activity modification, foot care advice. Patient centred treatment planning is pivotal to ensure optimum patient outcome.
